What is Shotokan Karate?

Shotokan Karate is a martial art with a purpose emphasizing courtesy and respect. Made from a combination of the strong points from several ancient styles. Shotokan holds an edge of superiority over other styles because of its balanced use of hands, feet, speed, power, offense and defense and may be considered as the most ideal physical exercise.

Why do people take Shotokan?

  • SHOTOKAN KARATE AS A PATH TO SELF-IMPROVEMENT:
    • Physical fitness training and a way to improve speed, power, flexibility, coordination and confidence.
    • Enhance inner peace and strength.
  • SHOTOKAN KARATE AS A SPORT:
    • Develop skill and technique (as demonstrated in the floor exercises, or "Kata"), competition, kata (form) and kumite (sparing).
  • SHOTOKAN KARATE FOR SELF-DEFENSE:
    • Very effective way to counter an attacker.
    • It teaches techniques to subdue or disable.
    • It conditions the reflexes to react instinctively if attacked.
    • Best of all, no weapons are needed
